Schloegel Pasties

Crust:
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
1-1/2 cups Crisco
1/2 cup water

Filling:
1 pound hamburger
3 cups finely diced potatoes
1/2 cup finely diced onion
3/4 cup grated carrot
1-1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Gravy:
Heinz Home Style Gravy (Savory Beef)

1.) Dice onions and grate carrots.

2.) Dice potatoes into small cubes. (Note: Large potato cubes won't blend well with hamburger.)

3.) Mix hamburger, potato, onion, carrots, salt, and pepper.

4.) Prepare crust by combining flour and salt and cutting in Crisco. Sprinkle with water a tablespoon at a time while tossing with fork. Work dough into a firm ball with your hands. Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into an 9 inch circle.

5.) Place 1/8 of hamburger filling mixture onto the dough.

6.) Fold dough over meat and crimp edges and cut vents in top.  Bake in a 400 degree oven for 40 minutes.  The pastie can also be frozen before baking.  When ready to bake, do not defrost, just bake as described above.

7.) Serve with gravy and a green vegetable.
